THE BURNING OF NEW LONDON, ON THE 6TH OF SEPTEMBER, 1781

Ft Stanwix (Rome NY) August 3-22, 1777
The 21 day British siege of Ft. Stanwix
(known as Ft. Schuyler during the Revolutionary War),
August 3-22, 1777, blocked one of the British armies
invading into New York State in the summer of that year.
The successful defense of the fort helped to bring about
the American victory at Saratoga in the fall of 1777.
Saratoga (Stillwater, NY) Sept 27-28, Oct 7, 1777
Site of the first significant American
military victory during the Revolution, the Battles of
Saratoga rank among the fifteen most decisive battles
in world history. Here in 1777 American forces met,
defeated and forced a major British army to surrender,
an event which led France to recognize the independence
of the United States and enter the war as a decisive
military ally of the struggling Americans.
Valley Forge (Valley Forge, PA) 1777 - 1778
Here, despite setbacks and hardships,
the Continental Army under General George Washington's
leadership built upon its growing military competence
Cowpens (Located near Chesnee, SC) January 17, 1781
Daniel Morgan led his army of tough Continentals, militia
and cavalry to a brilliant victory over Banastre Tarleton's
force of British regulars.
Guilford Courthouse (Greensboro, NC) March 15, 1781
The battle fought here on March 15, 1781,
was the largest, most hotly-contested action of the
Revolutionary War's climactic Southern Campaign.
